When a sector switch in Germany is premature
Not every industry switch should happen this quarter. Employment consulting in Germany sometimes means advising a candidate to wait — especially when the target field requires credentials, language depth, or site experience that cannot be improvised.
Warning signs include: every interesting title demands a licence or certified training you have not started; your German workplace language is still too thin for the meetings the role requires; you cannot name three transferable episodes without inventing details; or you are leaving primarily to escape a single difficult manager rather than to enter a field you have researched.
If those signs appear, useful next steps still exist. Take a short course or volunteer project that produces real evidence. Practise workplace German in settings closer to your target. Run a German Application Package for adjacent roles inside your current industry that build toward the switch. Schedule Industry Change Onboarding later, when the evidence sheet is thicker.
A premature move that ends in a short tenure can make the next switch harder. Timing is part of onboarding guidance, not a delay tactic.
